How do you choose a wine? How do you pair it with a certain dish? What should you bring when invited to dinner? Which one goes best with my tastes or my character? What are the wonderful production mechanisms that turn grapes into wine?

What does the classic or Charmat method mean?

What is the difference between traditional, organic, biodynamic, and natural wines?

I found out all these answers and many more by attending the first edition of the Vinhood Academy.

Without having to attend sommelier courses, a basic wine tasting or introductory course is often enough. Vinhood thought about this during the lockdown and created this brilliantly interactive online course that is suitable for everyone.

With the Vinhood Academy, you will gain the necessary theoretical and practical skills to carry out a tasting session on your own. So you can fully understand the sense of the complex wine product, the course also analyzes how it is made, its aging methods, typical characteristics and the availability on the market for the different types.

The course is divided into five two-hour evening classes.

Thanks to Giuditta and Daniele, Alma-AIS Master Sommeliers, we have undertaken a real journey through the world of wine and, step by step, we have learned the real “tricks of the trade” through tasting sessions, online lessons, meetings with producers and an absorbing final Wine Quiz.

Just before the course started, we received a case of six bottles of Italian wine at home, which was a wonderful starter for the weekly lessons.

For each lesson, the first part was organized on theory and then a second part with a guided tasting session for different wines starting from the #Characters of the taste offered, as always, by Vinhood.

It was not a classic webinar, where a teacher or expert speaks and the class listens. Lesson by lesson, each participant got involved with the discussion and took part in a team wine game.

But the wonderful thing was the chance to get to know and chat with the producers, albeit remotely, and to interact with them, ask questions and get to know not just the wine but the often absorbing history of the wineries chosen to represent the various “colors” of the wine and their characters.

I cannot say that I am a wine expert, but over time, especially thanks to Vinhood, from the evenings attended first and then the absorbing online communication, I have learned a lot about the world of wine, starting with the famous “drinking right”, as well as about myself and what I like.

What is most impressive about the Vinhood “method” is that learning about wine is not something far away and out-of-reach, but rather it happens every time we open a bottle of wine with an intrepid will to learn about taste.

I cannot wait to take part in the in-depth masterclasses which start in September.

Have a look here, the new Vinhood Academy is already online!

We would like to thank Linda Fiumara for this article, a blogger, teacher, traveler, and coffee lover, so much so that she has dedicated an entire blog to talking about breakfasts, traveling and tips. We were delighted by her presence. –

Would you like to follow Linda on social media?  She is a blogger, gourmet travel expert, and has recently started a blog about coffee and other things called Lunedì a colazione where she gives ideas and suggestions about discovering incredible places in Italy and around the world!
