The fact that the Italian film “Sapore di mare” (The taste of the sea) is set in Versilia is no coincidence. The choice of location was anything but a random, last-minute decision. In fact, the overriding vibe in that fragment of the Tuscan coastline is that of a sort of Italian California: full of beach bods (but no roller skates) riding in cars with all the windows down and music blaring (accompanied by a variety of low-flying swear words directed at pedestrians) drinking until sunset and beyond (not a drop of coca-cola in sight, just wine). And since the temperatures here in summertime usually hit the boiling point, it’s better if your glass contains a good #Outgoing Vermentino.

WE KNOW BETTER “COLLI E MARE” OF GIARDINI RIPADIVERSILIA

In the Colli e Mare Vermentino of Lorenzo Svetlich, owner of the winery Giardini Ripadiversilia, which watches the coast where the film was made from its altitude of 200 meters above sea level, time seems to have come to a standstill, crystalized in a perennial 1970s all-Italian summertime. What we have before us is the alcoholic version of “Sapore di mare”, but without that characteristic rather rude, farcical humour.

It is a clean, fresh, sharp wine on the nose and on the palate, in which you can tell that the wine-making process took place in burr-free steel vats. And then, although he comes from Trieste, Lorenzo speaks a strong Tuscan dialect, and he has crafted a wine with a local flavour but also satisfies the international palate of the throngs of tourists who flock to Versilia.

It was with them in mind that he decided to add a small percentage of Malvasia (10 to be precise), adding softness and endowing it with a strong floral and fruity scent. A perfect holiday souvenir. It tastes like salty kisses exchanged on the beach, away from Mum and Dad, and conveys all the carefree excitement of an adolescent summer romance. It has such a strong sapid aroma that you want to lift your glass to your ear and listen for the sound of the sea.

An immediate, easy-to-drink wine, like the typical characters played by Jerry Calà, winning over everyone, even the most sophisticated palates, because people can’t help but like it.

It has a naturally #Outgoing character. But watch out, the emotions it arouses will wash you away!

Drinking it is like riding out the waves on a huge inflatable banana, with a galloping citrusy acidity that makes you never want to get off.

After every sip, you’re dying to get back on and repeat the thrill.

The result? It has to be said: libido, double libido, libido with bells on!

So now all you have to do is take our test and discover the character of your palate. And if you turn out to be #Outgoing, we recommend you try it now!
