It\u2019s us again, from Caff\u00e8Lab! What do you mean you don\u2019t know who we are? In the <\/span>last article<\/span><\/a> we introduced ourselves and told you all about how we\u2019re among the founding members of the Italian chapter of the <\/span>IWCA<\/b>, an association that\u2019s committed to giving both communication and market space to coffees produced by female cooperatives.<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019re not \u201cpink quota\u201d fanatics, but we\u2019re familiar with many coffee producing countries, and know, sometimes rather intimately, the societies of which they\u2019re comprised; societies that are often characterized by poverty and limited access to education (the last girl who manages a coffee cooperative, who we interviewed for our <\/span>Meet the Coffee Farmer<\/b> series<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n

These days, unfortunately, when there\u2019s a social context of oppression and violence, the first to suffer are the weakest, the poor, children and women.\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s why, when we find someone who\u2019s starting life with a disadvantage, who rolls up their sleeves and develops a worthy project, we like to see them succeed and try to do our own small part to make it happen. <\/span>Success for these young women means allowing them to sell their coffee, giving them space and visibility on the market.<\/span><\/p>\n

THE WOMAN\u2019S COFFEE PROJECT SPECIALTY COFFEES FROM CAFF\u00c8LAB<\/b><\/h2>\n

Those familiar with the concept of specialty coffee know that these coffees aren\u2019t created to offer the same flavor as always, to reassure us with customs and traditions. Nope, they\u2019re created to be diverse, each one with its own extraordinary terroir and botanical varieties, and different depending on the season and the harvest.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you think about it\u2026 coffee is, ultimately, an agricultural product and as such must be unique! <\/span>Therefore, the coffees that we offer change, but on this <\/span>always up-to-date list, you\u2019ll find the best coffees produced by women<\/span><\/a>, in the hopes that this list continues to grow rapidly! <\/span>Are you ready to get to know some of them? Oh, I almost forgot: all of our coffees are roasted by Rob and only upon request (because with our coffees, freshness counts)!<\/span><\/p>\n

NOVA CAFE DES MAMAS\u00a0– RWANDA<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n

A micro-batch obtained exclusively from Peaberry beans. What is that exactly? As you know, coffee is basically a cherry, that usually has two seeds inside. But in this case, within the drupe, a single, sometimes intensely aromatic, seed develops, a Peaberry, the abbreviation of<\/span> \u201cpearl berry\u201d<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Adventurous <\/b>The Rwandan women who cultivate these plots of land in the area of the Gicumbi District evidently do a very good job, given that their coffee has earned 84 technical tasting points according to the SCA scale. <\/span>When we drink it, we understand why: Rwanda Nova Cafe des Mamas is an elegant and light bodied coffee with aromatic notes of black tea and chocolate, a strong citric acidity, and a pleasant sweetness.<\/span><\/p>\n

MYANMAR THE LADY<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Myanmar, the former Burma, is a breathtaking country, both dreamy and complicated at the same time, where exportation and the exploitation of children and women are the norm. <\/span>That\u2019s why we decided to promote this coffee only after getting to know Thi Ha Gyawalie and Su Nandar Linn, its founding partners, personally.<\/span><\/p>\n

For them, being able to directly sell their coffee abroad, without obscure intermediation, means giving hope and a future to all women in the Ywangan region and in their country. How\u2019s their coffee? 85 points in the SCA tasting with notes of citrus and sweet dried fruit. Truly special! <\/span>Fascinating.<\/span><\/p>\n

PER\u00d9 PACHAMAMA<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Seven Elements group has been working for years in the Oxapampa region, in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon rainforest. They were the ones who put us in contact with the indigenous Yanesha community, whose women produce Pachamama coffee, which in the <\/span>Quechua language<\/span><\/i>means “Mother Earth”.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tasting \u201cMother Earth\u2019s\u201d coffee means experiencing exceptional sweetness, balanced citric acidity, a full body, and aromatic notes of cocoa, vanilla, and ripe strawberries, aromas which are exalted by the coffee\u2019s approximately 18-hour aerobic fermentation process, ultimately earning it 86 points. Not too shabby!<\/span><\/p>\n

EL SALVADOR LA ESPERANZA<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n

88 hectares immersed in breathtaking views of the Santa Ana Volcano\u2019s highlands in El Salvador. It\u2019s here that the young women of the Pacas family work, producing a coffee which connects them to environmental and economic sustainability projects, and it\u2019s here, at 1600 meters above sea level, that they produce the coffee of the <\/span>La Esperanza<\/span><\/i> micro-batch.<\/span><\/p>\n

This high altitude leads to a coffee with a creamy body and notes of apricot and pineapple. You want to taste it, right? <\/span>Its score? 84.5. They\u2019re not messing around here either! <\/span>Have you already tasted these coffees? <\/span>If the answer is no… then you have to get on that immediately!<\/span><\/p>\n
